Scrubs Wanted

We’ve been recently talking a lot about niche marketing around here and I thought I’d share one with you: cheap scrubs or discount medical uniforms. This market is hot, and the health care industry is stable and growing with no signs of slowing down.

Employees in hospitals, clinics, doctors offices and labs usually are required to wear a uniform to work. For various types of medical employees (medical assistants, techs doctors and nurses), scrubs are their uniform of choice. Since many department/clothing stores don’t sell scrubs, many in the medical field get their uniforms from medical uniform businesses, and that’s where you come in.

Figure out what styles and brands you can sell. Which brands are the most popular? Known brands such as Dickies, Cherokee and Peaches Uniforms sell well. Many medical facilities don’t want to give patients that old school  ”dreary doctors office” feeling.  That’s why scrubs today come in various colors and patterns. Take a look at this site for inspiration: http://www.blueskyscrubs.com/categories/Scrubs/Scrubs-for-Men/

Network with medical professionals or go to where the need is. Chances are you know someone in the medical field.  Leverage those relationships to get your ‘foot in the door’. Visit a hospital or a doctors office to see what they are wearing.  Talk to their purchasing departments to see if their is a bidding process to land bulk orders.

You can then start testing an online store, perhaps even market offline in trade publications that cater to nurses, med techs and others in the healthcare industry. And all this growth comes because you saw fit to look at a specific niche.  Who said scrubs aren’t wanted??
